Job Summary

The Director of Accounting Services is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day accounting work and preparing periodic financial reports. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for supervising the Finance and Accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of all employees in Finance and Accounting to ensure that all responsibilities are performed satisfactorily.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative and productive working environment.
  • Oversee department budget, maintaining expenses within allowed limits and adjusting as needed to provide adequate financial services to Williamsburg Landing.
  • Prepare, analyze, and process monthly journal entries and accruals, reconciling discrepancies and noting reasons for variances to budget.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including management discussion analysis.
  • Assist in monitoring internal controls and developing good work standards and practices.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts and prepare account roll forward schedules monthly.
  • Review fixed assets, including evaluating operating versus capitalization of costs.
  • Act as liaison between residents, their families, Resident Finance Manager, and the CFO on financial concerns or residency contract issues that require involved and complex responses.
  • Support Williamsburg Landing and departmental efforts to identify residents who need benevolence support and identify means to provide that support in a cost-effective manner while maintaining the resident's dignity and safety.
  • Maintain effective and professional relationships with Board members, staff, management, residents, and their families, and all visitors to Williamsburg Landing.
  • Comply with all Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures, including those addressing conduct, dress, safety, and attendance.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar environment, with 3 years' supervisory experience, are required. A CPA certification is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and be able to consistently and accurately apply those principles. Strong knowledge of Medicare Reimbursement principles, Payroll Accounting, and Accounts Payable is also required. The candidate should be able to proactively solve problems and offer feasible solutions, handle multiple time-sensitive assignments, and work effectively with peers, management, members of the Board of Directors, and residents. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.
