About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Economist to join our team at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). As a key member of our Office of Economic and Risk Analysis (OERA), you will play a critical role in developing economic analyses of rules and standards, conducting post-implementation reviews, and developing predictive econometric models to support our strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth economic analyses of rules and standards, including post-implementation reviews and predictive econometric modeling.
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to develop technical papers and memoranda that support economic analyses and provide transparency into data sets, methods, and results.
  • Present analysis and findings to internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and external experts.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the quality of our economic analysis, post-implementation reviews, and econometric models.
  • Engage with outside experts in academia and industry to further strengthen our understanding of auditing and econometric modeling capabilities.
  • Analyze public and proprietary data to support and inform other PCAOB initiatives and projects.
  • Provide guidance to research analysts in the development of complex datasets.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Expertise in conducting empirical research related to auditing, accounting, or financial markets, or developing econometric/statistical models for prediction and causal inference.
  • Proficiency in statistical software packages (Stata, R, or SAS) and/or other programming languages (such as Python) to conduct econometric modeling and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent collaborative skills and the ability to promote collaboration by unifying teams, setting common goals, and incentivizing collaborative behavior.
  • Ability to clearly articulate a position with sound logic, supporting empirical evidence, and impartiality.
  • Ability to effectively represent the organization to a variety of internal and external constituencies.
  • A self-starter able to administer multiple open assignments at any one time, requiring autonomy and independent judgment.
  • Ability to develop, coach, and mentor junior team members, providing constant feedback and clear direction.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to help achieve the organization's goals.
  • In-depth experience successfully harmonizing diverse and competing interests.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (excluding post-graduate experience).
  • Knowledge of corporate finance.
