Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide community-based support and education to parents/caregivers of children with special needs and/or behavioral health needs. This will involve working with the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (ECMHC) staff, EEC program leadership, and educators to develop measurable family partner goals in the Individualized Service Delivery Plan.

The Family Support Specialist will engage parents/caregivers in activities designed to address one or more goals/tasks on the Individualized Service Delivery Plan. They will assist parents/caregivers in meeting the needs of the child through educating, supporting, coaching, modeling, and guiding.

The ideal candidate will have an Associates or Bachelor's degree in a human services field with one or more years of experience working with children and youth. They must be a parent, guardian, or caregiver of a youth with special needs and/or behavioral health needs. Experience in navigating child and family service systems and teaching families who are involved in those systems is also required.

The Family Support Specialist will have the ability to communicate with other parents in a supportive and non-judgmental manner regarding their needs. They will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with both professional and non-professionals and have the capacity to work effectively with the service provider community.

The successful candidate will have the ability to be an effective spokesperson representing both the ECMHC program and the needs of the families in the community. They will be able to actively facilitate the development of local and community resources.

Bilingual and bicultural skills are a plus, and additional language capacity and/or cultural diversity are highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide community-based support and education to parents/caregivers of children with special needs and/or behavioral health needs.
  • Work with the ECMHC staff, EEC program leadership, and educators to develop measurable family partner goals in the Individualized Service Delivery Plan.
  • Engage parents/caregivers in activities designed to address one or more goals/tasks on the Individualized Service Delivery Plan.
  • Assist parents/caregivers in meeting the needs of the child through educating, supporting, coaching, modeling, and guiding.
  • Teach parents/caregivers how to connect to community resources and communicate with providers.
  • Support parents/caregivers in advocating for services and resources to meet a child's needs.
  • Guide, support, and foster empowerment, including linkages to individual, peer/parent support, and self-help groups.
  • Participate in feedback meetings and transition planning.
  • Provide telephone support and outreach to parents/caregivers.

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in a human services field with one or more years of experience working with children and youth.
  • Must be a parent, guardian, or caregiver of a youth with special needs and/or behavioral health needs.
  • Experience in navigating child and family service systems and teaching families who are involved in those systems.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, full-time.

Pay:

$21.63 hourly.
