Job Title: OB Technician II

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated OB Technician II to contribute to the success of our Women's Health Units at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). As an OB Technician II, you will play a critical role in providing safe and accurate care to patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or physician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe and accurate care to patients throughout the Women's Health Units, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team to facilitate seamless care coordination across the continuum.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile technique, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and demonstrate professional qualities, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
  • Manage information appropriately and contribute to the prevention and control of infection.

Clinical Judgement & Decision Making:

As an OB Technician II, you will be expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgement and decision-making skills, including:

  • Understanding the complexities of patient care and making informed decisions to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Attending to important information and responding in a concerned and involved manner.

Employee-Client Relationship:

You will be expected to demonstrate a patient-centered approach, recognizing the patient (or the patient's designee) as the source of control and a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for the patient's preferences, values, and needs.

Clinical Leadership:

As an OB Technician II, you will be expected to demonstrate effective collaboration and innovative problem-solving skills, including:

  • Engaging in systematic, evidence-based problem solving and decision making.
  • Supporting the development of others and creating a practice climate of responsiveness and learning.

Clinical Scholarship:

You will be expected to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile technique, as well as the ability to evaluate and integrate best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient and family preferences and values for the delivery of optimal healthcare and system effectiveness.

Credentials:

We require that the successful candidate holds a surgical OB Technician certification from an accredited certification program, or has successfully completed a surgical OB Technician program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation.

Education and Experience:

We require a High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technician.
