About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Battery Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the development and qualification of battery systems for our New Glenn launch vehicle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the design and qualification of battery systems, including electronics, cell testing, and hardware testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of flight hardware.
  • Develop and maintain system design documentation, including requirements, test plans, and CAD drawings.
  • Work closely with program and manufacturing management teams to ensure build, test, and delivery of flight hardware.
  • Support the development of Automated Test Equipment for acceptance and qualification testing.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of direct experience in battery development, with 3+ years in space applications desired.
  • Direct experience with battery design, test, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with cell selection, testing, and screening.
  • Experience with battery management electronics and related software.
  • Familiarity with testing and qualifying hardware per industry standards like SMC-S-018 and SMC-S-016.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Highly organized teammate with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in development of launch vehicles.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), DOORS, CREO, Windchill.

We offer a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $156,910.50-$219,674.70, depending on location. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
