Senior Battery Engineer

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Senior Battery Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing, developing, and qualifying battery systems for our reusable launch vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the design of battery systems, including electronics, cell testing, and hardware testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of flight hardware.
  • Work closely with program and manufacturing management to develop production processes and testing.
  • Support the development of Automated Test Equipment for acceptance and qualification testing.
  • Be responsible for the successful qualification of battery systems.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of direct experience in battery development, 3+ years in space applications desired.
  • Direct experience with Battery Design, Test, and Manufacturing.
  • Experience with cell selection, testing, and screening.
  • Experience with Battery Management Electronics and related Software.
  • Familiar with testing and qualifying hardware per industry standards like SMC-S-018 and SMC-S-016.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Highly organized teammate with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in development of launch vehicles.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), DOORS, CREO, Windchill.
