About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Battery Systems Engineer III to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of advanced battery systems for our New Glenn launch vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a full system design and its associated documentation (CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs, etc.)
  • Develop mechanical components for the battery system, including modules, pack assemblies, interconnects, electrical components, structural components, and enclosures from concept, through qualification, and into production
  • Develop production processes for module build, through pack assembly, and end of line acceptance testing
  • Work closely with the program and manufacturing management team through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware
  • Support the development of the Automated Test Equipment for acceptance and qualification testing
  • Support the successful qualification of the hardware
  • Support integration into the vehicle and assist in solving and vehicle integration

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of direct experience in battery development, 3+ year in space applications desired
  • Direct experience with Battery Mechanical Design, Test, and Manufacturing
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion batteries and battery test methods
  • Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) and performing tolerance stack ups
  • Experience specifying and justifying margins and test sequences for aerospace systems
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical assembly product lifecycle
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Highly organized teammate with excellent technical interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Experience in development of launch vehicles
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), DOORS, CREO, Windchill
