Senior Battery Engineer

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Senior Battery Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing and developing the battery systems for our New Glenn launch vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the design and development of battery systems for New Glenn
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate battery systems into the launch vehicle
  • Work closely with manufacturing and testing teams to ensure high-quality battery production
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and requirements for battery systems
  • Support the development of automated test equipment for battery qualification and acceptance testing
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of direct experience in battery development, 3+ years in space applications desired
  • Direct experience with battery design, test, and manufacturing
  • Experience with cell selection, testing, and screening
  • Experience with battery management electronics and related software
  • Familiarity with testing and qualifying hardware per industry standards like SMC-S-018 and SMC-S-016
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Highly organized teammate with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Experience in development of launch vehicles
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), DOORS, CREO, Windchill
