Job Opportunity:

AECOM is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to join our Surface Transportation Department in Colorado Springs, CO. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing urban and rural roadways, interstate highways, interchanges, and other transportation projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop geometric designs for roadways, including horizontal and vertical alignments and models.
  • Prepare design reports, including design study reports and technical memorandums.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including clients, the public, utility companies, and permitting agencies.
  • Prepare plans for roadway projects in accordance with CDOT or local standards.
  • Calculate quantities and estimates for CDOT and local transportation projects.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
  • Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
  • Perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer under the supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures under the supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Work on detailed and routine engineering assignments involving calculations and identify discrepancies in results.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered.
  • Provide guidance to entry-level engineers.
  • Use analytic and design skills.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving engineering problems.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision to create and deliver work products to clients.
  • Work within the Highway group on the planning and design of civil engineering projects, including local roadways, highways, interstates, multi-modal, utility, and drainage improvements.
  • Collaborate with design teams consisting of multidiscipline design engineers, technicians, and planners.
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member and assist with tasks, including preparing designs, reports, engineering-related calculations, drawings, and visual aids.
  • Follow quality procedures.
  • Effectively communicate (written and oral) with peers both in person and online.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • 4 years of previous roadway design experience on transportation projects, including schematic development and/or preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License or the ability to obtain a PE license within the first year of employment.
  • Experience designing highway/roadway systems.
  • Experience on multidisciplinary projects with subconsultants.
  • Experience with design software, including Bentley Open Roads/ORD.
  • Current work and experience with schematic development, roadway design.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as a team.
