Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input and guidance on studies and design for staff members.
  • Develop and implement study and design procedures to ensure high-quality, cost-effective work.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and technical effort estimates for projects.
  • Use expertise in all steps of completing discipline components of PS&E packages.
  • Perform quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
  • Provide input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules.
  • Initiate and create project designs and drawings/plans for transportation and/or civil design projects.
  • Perform detailed design, including preparation of complete calculation packages and development of details.
  • Guide drafting teams for preparation of drawings from early stages of design to final contract plans.
  • Understand the importance of review and quality control and perform reviews of design calculations and drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare and contribute to the development and implementation of technical approaches in projects in collaboration with project managers.
  • Oversee the work of less experienced designers.
  • Meet with clients to ensure client needs are met.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineer (PE - Colorado) certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree with years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience with design software, including MicroStation and OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Experience designing highway/roadway systems in Colorado.
  • Previous design experience on transportation projects, including schematic development and preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
  • Experience with business development/client relations.
