Supply Chain Manager, Vega

Emeryville, California, United States unspun Full time

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Supply Chain Manager to oversee our operations. In this position, your main duty will be to create and execute plans for effective sourcing, management, and production of intricate hardware subassemblies for our industrial 3D weaving machine. We are looking for an individual with a robust background in supply chain management for industrial machinery, particularly from the prototype stage to initial production.

In this capacity, you will serve as the essential link between engineering, operations, and manufacturing, nurturing relationships with external contract manufacturing partners and establishing timelines for internal stakeholders. We desire someone who has navigated similar challenges and is enthusiastic about the dynamic environment of a startup.

About Us

unspun is a pioneering robotics and digital apparel company, dedicated to minimizing global carbon emissions by 1% through automated, localized, and intentional manufacturing.

Recognized in Time's Best Inventions & Fast Company's World Changing Ideas, unspun aims to swiftly transform the trillion-dollar apparel industry into one that is more deliberate, inclusive, and efficient by focusing on the intersection of sustainability and profitability.

We have developed proprietary and patent-pending technology that merges 3D printing with automated textile manufacturing. By bypassing the traditional flat 2D fabric stage, we can additively construct custom apparel products from the ground up—directly from yarn to the final product. If the concepts of additive manufacturing, industrial automation, and synchronized systems of numerous sensors and actuators excite you, we would love to discuss further.

Requirements

About You

As the inaugural Supply Chain Manager on unspun's Engineering Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and executing our Vega scale-up strategy. You likely possess valuable experience from overcoming the hurdles of scaling hardware in the past and are eager to thrive in the fast-paced environment of early-stage development. You are undeterred by the ongoing challenges of maintaining order and have extensive experience in optimizing processes, controlling costs, and ensuring product quality. You are adept at using data to inform decisions and establishing clear expectations for all parties involved. You communicate efficiently at a high level but are also willing to delve into the details with internal teams across engineering, operations, and manufacturing. You likely have a history of cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and are recognized for your forward-thinking approach.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee the comprehensive supply chain strategy for Vega as we transition from Beta to Production level machines.
  • Identify and qualify suppliers to establish scalable manufacturing and dependable OTS sourcing processes.
  • Collaborate closely with contract manufacturers to ensure alignment on production schedules, quality benchmarks, and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and maintain successful global supplier partnerships.
  • Create scalable processes and foster trust with the engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and global operations teams.
  • Recognize potential risks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, promoting sustainable and ethical sourcing practices.
  • Assist in building and expanding the unspun Engineering Operations team, encouraging a collaborative and high-performance work culture.

Ideal Qualities

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in manufacturing for a tangible product from early prototype designs to initial mass production phases.
  • A proven track record of establishing production lines and shipping substantial hardware (not limited to consumer electronics).
  • Experience with advanced robotics systems and industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • A strong sense of ownership, urgency, and motivation.
  • A willingness to collaborate closely with the unspun product development team to meet external contract obligations.

Bonus Points

  • Interest in weaving, carbon reduction, deep tech, or all of the above.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience within cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards for capital equipment and machinery, including safety, environmental, and industry-specific compliance requirements.
  • Experience in EU markets/textile industries.

If you feel you can contribute to our mission, we encourage you to explore this opportunity.
