Job Overview

At Office Depot Inc., the Retail Sales Associate plays a vital role in delivering outstanding customer service in a part-time capacity. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including operating the cash register, providing logistical support, stocking shelves, managing inventory, maintaining store cleanliness, and safeguarding company assets. The Retail Sales Associate will establish and nurture customer relationships, becoming a trusted resource by leveraging foundational knowledge of technology products and print services.

The Retail Sales Associate is expected to exhibit enthusiasm for the brand, technology items, office furniture, and the diverse services offered to customers. Utilizing Office Depot Inc.'s established sales strategies, the Retail Sales Associate will proactively engage with customers to enhance sales across all offerings while accurately assessing customer needs to ensure satisfaction in every interaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by performing cashier duties, providing logistical support, stocking, restocking, managing inventory, maintaining store cleanliness, and protecting company assets.
  • Execute merchandise-related tasks to ensure compliance with presentation standards by implementing plan-o-gram updates, merchandise setups, and pricing adjustments. Manage weekly advertisements, including price changes and store signage updates.
  • Adhere to established sorting and stocking protocols while completing freight processes. Maintain an organized freight sorting area in accordance with guidelines. Conduct daily scans to address inventory shortages.
  • Proactively greet and engage every customer to foster a positive shopping experience. Utilize the selling program to promote the best solutions and additional products or services. Stay informed about planned promotions and advertisements.
  • Assess customer needs to identify additional offerings or services that may benefit them, including referrals to the Contract Sales team when appropriate.
  • Enhance personal selling skills and product knowledge through provided sales and service resources. Support sales initiatives related to Technology, Tech Services, Furniture, and Print.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and practices while supporting loss prevention efforts.
  • Complete required training in Technology, Print, and other relevant areas, including obtaining necessary certifications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • No prior experience required; retail sales experience is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for building relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and G-Mail.
  • Ability to utilize technology for information access and job completion.
  • Capability to process transactions through the POS register system.
  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete documentation and manage inventory.
  • Enjoyment in interacting with customers is essential.
