Position Overview

Ockerman Automation Consulting, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Power Systems Design Engineer with a robust background in electrical engineering to enhance our team. This role will primarily focus on the design and construction of switchboards and power systems. While prior experience in switchboard design is not mandatory, a solid foundation in electrical engineering principles is crucial. We are committed to providing the necessary training to help you develop the skills required for effective engineering and design contributions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical System Development: Design and implement electrical systems, encompassing power distribution, lighting, communication, control systems, instrumentation, and safety protocols, in compliance with industry standards.
  • Design Documentation: Generate comprehensive electrical design schematics and blueprints for switchboards, detailing layout, wiring, and component arrangement. Perform essential engineering calculations for optimal component selection.
  • Power System Analysis: Utilize software tools such as SKM and Matlab/Simulink to conduct power system studies, including short circuit analysis, load flow studies, and protective relay coordination.
  • Project Collaboration: Work alongside project managers and clients to establish project requirements and objectives. Engage in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities.
  • Technical Specifications: Develop detailed technical documents, schematics, and diagrams necessary for the design and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Component Selection: Identify and select suitable electrical components and materials for projects, considering reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Safety Compliance: Conduct risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Testing Procedures: Create and implement testing protocols to validate the performance of electrical systems, analyzing data to optimize functionality.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems with other engineering disciplines.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve electrical issues that may arise during installation and operation.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay informed about industry trends and advancements, proposing innovative solutions to enhance system performance.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and electrical codes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in electrical system design, ideally in the maritime or oil and gas sectors.
  • Proficient in design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, ETAP).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to work under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality outcomes.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving project needs.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD PCL is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to navigate various environments to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Willingness to work in both office and manufacturing settings.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
