Position: Laboratory Specimen Processing Technician
Location: Lenexa, KS

Compensation: $16-$18 per hour on W2.
Work Schedule:
1st Shift - Monday: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Tuesday-Friday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Contract Duration: 4 Months

*Compensation is contingent upon experience and educational background.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Laboratory Specimen Processing Technician (SPT I) will perform essential support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role necessitates a background in data entry. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, specimen sorting, collection, and delivery to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All tasks must be executed with precision, confidence, and timeliness. The role is multifaceted and requires strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to learn and comprehend various specimen types related to tests requested by clients. The SPT I must also be adept at understanding compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may vary daily. This position is crucial for maintaining quality and ensuring customer satisfaction. Given the dynamic nature of the role, flexibility is essential. The SPT I will encounter diverse demands from clients. While most SPT I positions operate during the night shift, availability for weekends, holidays, on-call duties, and overtime may be required. The department operates in a production-focused environment, emphasizing productivity and quality standards. Candidates should possess a data entry background with the capability to achieve 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour. The role involves working in a biohazard environment, necessitating adherence to safety protocols. Candidates should be able to remain seated or standing for extended periods and communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Maintaining a tidy work area and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive workplace culture is essential. Adaptability and flexibility in response to change are also important.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should have a basic understanding of computer systems, with a preference for knowledge in laboratory testing and/or specimen processing. While no prior experience is mandatory, previous laboratory experience is advantageous. A medical background, including familiarity with medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories, is preferred. Experience in a hospital laboratory setting is a plus but not essential. Previous exposure to a production environment is also beneficial.
