Job Overview

Position Summary:

  • Conduct a variety of standard laboratory tasks with precision to support the laboratory team and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Manage the sorting and intake of samples within the department.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on laboratory instruments as required.
  • Execute laboratory procedures such as centrifugation of samples, generating additional labels, and maintaining accurate records (including temperature logs) for sample storage and retrieval.
  • Prepare reagents and media necessary for laboratory processes.
  • Organize specimens at workstations for testing purposes, which includes creating worklists, aliquoting samples into containers, and ensuring specimen integrity.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control tasks as designated.
  • Address and resolve outstanding issues related to sample processing.
  • Locate and retrieve missing samples as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and decontamination of work areas.
  • Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests to maintain safety standards.
  • Maintain organized records for departmental documentation.
  • Replace gas cylinders as necessary.
  • Adhere to all personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols and safety regulations.
  • Utilize the laboratory information management system and operate computers effectively.
  • Safely dispose of biohazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Complete training and competency assessments as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Training as a medical assistant is advantageous.
  • Coursework in mathematics and sciences is preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities for optimal workstation productivity.
  • Capacity to retain and apply learned information.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism and respect in interactions with colleagues and clients.
