Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Confirmation Specialist to join our team at Clinical Reference Laboratory. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing duties related to sample preparation, submissions, and data review with strict adherence to departmental procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and separate samples, verifying proper chain of custody and prioritizing re-preps, dilutions, and batch worksheets.
  • Monitor, maintain, clean, calibrate, and record documentation on equipment, including manual and automated instruments.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and record documentation on instrumentation, including LC/MS/MS, ICS, Headspace, microplate reader, and microplate washer.
  • Properly label materials, pipette controls and samples, transfer and enter sequences onto designated instruments for analysis, and load samples onto instruments.
  • Maintain and distribute supplies, preparing reagents, re-filling troughs, and re-furbishing materials needed for sample prep.
  • Comply with safety regulations, using equipment and materials properly and handling them safely.
  • Read and follow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Meet qualitative and quantitative production goals of the department.
  • Monitor pass-through, request samples as needed, prioritize and assign batches as needed.
  • Communicate with department members to ensure maximum production.
  • Notify QA/QC of low reagents, low controls, and target range discrepancies.
Requirements
  • Education: A doctoral, master's, bachelor's, or associate degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science, or high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Moderate complexity testing, high complexity testing, and acting technical supervisor experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Good verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work under time constraints, detail-oriented, good judgment and decision-making skills, ability to follow instructions precisely, good laboratory technique, and ability to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, clients, and management.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting for extended lengths of time.
  • Regularly required to move around the laboratory.
  • Close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Repetitive use of hands, fingers, wrists, and elbows for operating a computer and telephone.
  • Reaching, including above the shoulder.
  • Bending or stooping.
  • Squatting or crouching.
  • Kneeling.
  • Climbing.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds.
Equipment
  • Automated testing instrumentation, including automated pipettors, centrifuge, shaker/rotator, heating block, pH meter, analytical balance, and various automated instruments.
  • Pipette, lab coat, gloves, gas cylinders, PC, and LC/MS/MS.
Other
  • Overtime as necessary.
  • Weekend work is required.
  • Specimens consist of body fluids and must be regarded as potentially infectious.
  • Exposure to caustics, flammables, solvents, carcinogens, and reactive compounds.
