Employee Insights:

The main objective of this position is to support the Mapleton facility in achieving and sustaining compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health regulations while driving continuous enhancement of our EHS standards. You will strategically formulate plans to elevate the Environmental, Health, and Safety performance at the site. This role includes providing compliance assistance to the North America Customer Service sites by designing, assessing, and updating safety programs, ensuring all documentation and reporting meet regulatory and corporate standards. You will oversee site safety initiatives, including project scope development, bid assessments, and fieldwork supervision. This position is integral to the Mapleton ESH team, ensuring comprehensive implementation of ESH programs and adherence to both Evonik and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management: Assist the Mapleton site in implementing ESH programs and ensuring environmental compliance by:
    • Engaging with internal and external experts on compliance matters.
    • Preparing for and assisting in corporate and governmental audits/inspections.
    • Conducting inspections and tests to monitor EHS issues and regulations.
    • Training employees on EHS policies and regulations.
    • Maintaining essential EHS records as per established protocols.
    • Contributing to the formulation of EHS policies and procedures.
    • Obtaining necessary certifications for wastewater and drinking water operations.
    • Managing daily operations of potable and wastewater systems.
    • Conducting routine inspections and reporting discrepancies to maintenance and EHS.
  • Leadership in EHS Projects: Drive environmental and compliance projects and safety initiatives for continuous improvement by:
    • Supporting the site’s ESH compliance requirements.
    • Assisting with health and safety programs, including incident investigations and audits.
    • Demonstrating leadership through organization and collaboration.
    • Gaining relevant experience through internships or prior roles.
    • Working independently when necessary.
    • Exhibiting strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Summarizing analytical data effectively for management.
    • Conducting contractor inspections and participating in safety reviews.
    • Providing training and evaluation for compliance activities.
    • Reviewing ESH programs regularly.
  • Incident Investigation Support: Assist in incident investigations by:
    • Utilizing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) tools effectively.
    • Leading sessions to apply RCA methodologies.
    • Presenting findings clearly to relevant stakeholders.
    • Acting as a subject matter expert for ESH tools.
    • Reporting key performance indicators for ESH initiatives.
  • Compliance Implementation: Enforce applicable regulations and Evonik ESH standards by:
    • Developing and delivering ESH training programs.
    • Identifying workplace hazards and contributing to risk assessments.
    • Creating and reviewing ESH procedures and conducting compliance audits.
Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Safety-related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience in safety, production, or engineering within a chemical manufacturing environment.
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of chemical processes and ESH compliance programs.
  • Expertise in risk assessment and management methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills.
  • Technical competence to implement environmental compliance measures.
  • Innovative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of process safety management and ESH regulations.
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and motivate others towards compliance.
  • Self-directed with strong prioritization skills.
  • Analytical skills for evaluation and risk assessment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant technologies.
