This role is situated within the Care Solutions division, specifically within the engineering department at our Mapleton facility. As a Project Engineer, you will oversee projects primarily focused on fatty acid and quaternization process technologies. Your responsibilities will include supporting the Mapleton site and providing regional assistance as required, which may involve travel.

Your role will encompass both expense and capital projects, guiding them from initial design through engineering and construction phases, ensuring detailed scopes of work are established. You will also engage in production-led initiatives necessitating modifications to equipment or piping. Additionally, you will contribute to facility enhancements and maintenance to uphold the integrity of site infrastructure, including tasks such as painting, roofing, and utility management.

Your expertise will be vital in supporting OSHA PSM elements, including MOCs, PHAs, PSSRs, P&IDs, and PSIs. You will be responsible for completing safety and quality-related action items, such as PHA tasks and safety observations, while promoting the continuous improvement of the site's mechanical integrity plan.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and execute CAPEX projects up to $5 million aimed at enhancing safety, quality, efficiency, or capacity of process equipment.
  • Guide projects from conceptual design through to construction, including cost estimations and budget management for both internal and contracted services.
  • Develop project timelines and collaborate with various departments to ensure minimal disruption to plant operations.
  • Design and specify equipment, piping, and instrumentation, including P&IDs and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for the procurement of equipment and materials.
  • Oversee MOCs, PHAs, DSRs, PSSRs, LOTO, CSE, PSI, HW, and SWP throughout all project phases.
  • Create new procedures for projects and provide training to site personnel as necessary.
  • Ensure the availability of spare parts and inventory for projects, along with any new PM plans required.
  • Implement projects safely, support the commissioning of new equipment, and provide startup assistance.
  • Offer local and regional support as needed.
  • Familiarize yourself with Evonik PM/PR procedures and ensure compliance with BTDs related to capital investments.
EHSQ Support
  • Participate in plant PHAs for projects.
  • Complete necessary LOTO, CSE, and hot work permits for both internal and external work.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate PSI documentation for the site.
  • Assist with incident investigations and environmental compliance.
  • Support the maintenance and compliance of the MOC system.
  • Address quality issues and complaints as required.
  • Review and fulfill assigned action items, documenting changes accurately and communicating with site personnel.
  • Assist with internal and external compliance audits.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the site's mechanical integrity program.
Plant and Production Support
  • Ensure timely review and completion of production-requested changes to equipment and processes.
  • Provide engineering support for troubleshooting equipment and processes.
  • Support productivity initiatives both internally and externally.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of project engineering experience in a chemical manufacturing environment or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in project management, cost estimation, and project execution.
  • Experience managing large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with process hazard analysis (PHA) and HAZIDs/HAZOPs is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of OSHA CFR PSM and EPA RMP regulations and compliance is preferred.
  • Experience in equipment design, sizing, and specification is essential.
  • Understanding of DCS control systems is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a plant environment and collaborating with teams across operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, safety, and planning.
  • Able to perform tasks using a computer for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong initiative.
