KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

  1. Handles outpatient referrals and collaborates with medical providers regarding dietary intervention services.
  2. Establishes nutrition objectives tailored to individual client requirements. Conducts dietary assessments, records client weight and height, and calculates BMI for documentation. Monitors each client's progress throughout their treatment journey, ensuring that progress notes align with the treatment plan goals (including calorie counts, nutrition evaluations, educational summaries, etc.).
  3. Applies Nutrition Care Practice Guidelines for outpatient services.
  4. Performs nutrition evaluations in collaboration with patients, adhering to best practice guidelines specific to their needs as recommended by referring providers.
  5. Assists patients in creating nutritionally balanced menus and meal plans.
  6. Updates and develops new dietary handouts and educational resources as necessary.
  7. Acts as a resource for community nutrition presentations and addresses nutrition inquiries from the public.
  8. Engages in professional development through seminars, workshops, and professional associations to stay informed about the latest trends in the field.
  9. Adheres to safety protocols to prevent injuries to self and others, including understanding safety procedures, infection control, and proper lifting techniques.
  10. Complies with organizational policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  11. Ensures courteous and efficient communication with team members and support groups, reflecting the organization's values.
  12. Maintains professionalism and adheres to appearance standards required for the role while representing the organization.
  13. Completes additional responsibilities as assigned by management to meet organizational standards.
  14. Provides support for related dietary services as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (not limited to):
  • Education:
    1. Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, or Dietetics.
  • Certification/Registration:
  1. Current Certified Dietitian status for Washington State.
  2. Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligibility for RD.
  3. Current Washington State Food Handlers permit.
  • Experience:
  1. Previous experience in dietetics, with one year of clinical dietitian experience preferred.
  • Skills/Competencies:
  1. Knowledge of nutrition and food preparation; supervisory and instructional techniques.
  2. Demonstrates proficiency with equipment as outlined in department-specific checklists.
  3. Critical thinking skills: seeks guidance when necessary, engages in independent problem-solving, and makes logical decisions.
  4. Acts with accountability, exercises sound judgment, and adheres to legal and ethical standards. Handles confidential information with discretion.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to care for patients across all age groups, possessing strong communication and problem-solving skills. Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to build rapport.
  6. Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) certification to be obtained within three months of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Occasional sitting, standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  2. Manual dexterity and light physical effort, with the ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment).
  3. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for accurate information exchange with healthcare professionals, clients, and the public.
  4. Good visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and utilize documentation tools.
