The Clinical Nutrition Specialist plays a vital role in delivering thorough nutritional evaluations, guidance, and education to patients in an outpatient environment. This position entails developing tailored dietary strategies, tracking patient advancements, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to enhance patient health and wellness.

This is a full-time role (40 hours) operating Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

  • Nutritional Evaluation:
    • Perform comprehensive nutritional evaluations of patients, assessing medical history, dietary practices, and lab results.
    • Determine nutritional requirements and formulate personalized dietary strategies to meet health objectives.
  • Patient Guidance and Education:
    • Offer individualized counseling to patients regarding dietary changes, meal planning, and healthy lifestyle choices.
    • Instruct patients on managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease through nutritional interventions.
  • Dietary Strategy Development:
    • Create and execute personalized nutrition plans based on patient needs, preferences, and medical backgrounds.
    • Modify dietary recommendations as necessary based on patient feedback and progress.
  • Progress Monitoring and Follow-Up:
    • Monitor patient progress and adjust dietary plans to ensure effectiveness.
    • Schedule and conduct follow-up sessions to assess progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing support.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a unified approach to patient care.
    • Engage in multidisciplinary team discussions to review patient progress and treatment strategies.
  • Documentation and Record Maintenance:
    • Keep accurate and current patient records, including dietary evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes.
    • Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and documentation standards.
  • Program Development:
    • Design and implement educational resources and initiatives to promote nutritional health and prevention.
    • Participate in community outreach and wellness programs as required.
  • Ongoing Education:
    • Stay informed about the latest research, trends, and best practices in nutrition and dietetics.
    • Pursue continuous professional development opportunities and certifications.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (not limited to):

  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition and Foods.
  2. Prior experience in dietetics, with a preference for one year of clinical dietitian experience.
  3. Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligibility for RD status.
  4. Current Certified Dietitian credential for Washington State.
  5. Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) certification to be completed within three months of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  2. Ability to occasionally push, pull, or lift 25 lbs.
  3. Majority of time spent in a well-lit, air-conditioned office environment performing computer work.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and/or written skills for accurate information exchange with healthcare professionals, patients, and the public.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  1. Demonstrates proficiency with equipment as outlined in department-specific checklist.
  2. Critical thinking abilities: Seeks guidance when necessary, engages in independent problem-solving, and makes logical decisions.
