The Outpatient Nutritional Therapy Dietitian plays a crucial role in conducting comprehensive nutritional evaluations, offering counseling, and delivering education to patients in an outpatient context.
This position involves the development of tailored dietary plans, monitoring patient progress, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to enhance patient health and wellness.
Key Responsibilities (not limited to):Nutritional Evaluation:
Perform detailed nutritional evaluations of patients, including reviewing medical history, dietary practices, and laboratory results.
Identify nutritional requirements and formulate personalized dietary plans to address health issues and objectives.
Patient Counseling and Education:
Deliver individualized counseling to patients regarding dietary adjustments, meal planning, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Inform patients on managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases through nutrition.
Dietary Plan Formulation:
Create and execute customized nutrition plans based on patient needs, preferences, and medical conditions.
Modify dietary recommendations as necessary based on patient feedback and progress.
Monitoring and Follow-Up:
Assess patient progress and make required modifications to dietary plans to ensure effectiveness.
Schedule and conduct follow-up appointments to monitor progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing support.
Collaboration:
Engage closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment strategies.
Documentation and Record Maintenance:
Maintain precise and up-to-date patient records, including dietary evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and documentation standards.
Program Development:
Create and implement educational materials and programs to promote nutritional wellness and prevention.
Contribute to community outreach and wellness initiatives as needed.
Continuous Learning:
Stay informed about the latest research, trends, and best practices in nutrition and dietetics.
Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities and certifications.
Position Qualifications (not limited to):
Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods.
Prior experience in dietetics, with one year of clinical dietitian experience preferred.
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics registration or RD eligibility.
Current Certified Dietitian status for Washington State.
Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three months of hire.
Physical Requirements:
Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to push, pull, or lift 25 lbs. occasionally.
The majority of time is spent in an air-conditioned, well-lit office environment performing computer work.
Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, patients, and/or family members.
