KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage outpatient referrals and collaborate with medical providers regarding dietary intervention services.
  2. Assess individual client needs to establish nutrition goals. Conduct dietary evaluations, document weight and height, and calculate BMI for client records. Track client progress throughout their treatment journey, ensuring that progress notes align with treatment objectives.
  3. Implement Nutrition Care Practice Guidelines tailored for outpatient services.
  4. Perform nutrition assessments in collaboration with patients, adhering to best practice guidelines and recommendations from referring providers.
  5. Assist patients in creating nutritionally balanced menus and meal plans.
  6. Develop and update diet handouts and educational resources as necessary.
  7. Act as a resource for community nutrition education and respond to public inquiries regarding nutrition.
  8. Engage in professional development through seminars, workshops, and professional associations to stay informed about the latest trends in nutrition.
  9. Adhere to safety protocols to prevent injuries to oneself and others, including understanding safety policies and infection control measures.
  10. Comply with organizational policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  11. Maintain courteous and efficient communication with team members and support groups, reflecting the organization's values.
  12. Exhibit professionalism and ensure personal appearance meets the standards required for the role.
  13. Handle additional responsibilities as assigned by management to meet organizational standards.
  14. Support related dietary services as needed for patient care.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education:
    1. Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, or Dietetics.
  • Certification/Registration:
  1. Current Certified Dietitian status for Washington State.
  2. Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligibility for RD.
  3. Current Washington State Food Handlers permit.
  • Experience:
  1. Prior experience in dietetics, with a preference for one year of clinical dietitian experience.
  • Skills/Competencies:
  1. Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition and food preparation, along with supervisory and instructional techniques.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency with equipment as per departmental checklist.
  3. Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to seek guidance when necessary and make informed decisions.
  4. Accountability in actions, exercising sound judgment and adhering to legal and ethical standards. Ability to manage confidential information discreetly.
  5. Ability to provide care across all age groups, with strong communication and problem-solving skills. Proficient in motivational interviewing techniques to build rapport.
  6. Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) certification to be obtained within three months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Occasional requirements for sitting, standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  2. Manual dexterity and light physical effort, with the ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs.
  3. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for accurate information exchange with healthcare professionals and the public.
  4. Good visual acuity for observing patient assessment data and utilizing documentation tools.
