Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Human Resources Specialist to join our team at Queens Public Library. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to the VP of Human Resources, including coordinating onboarding and offboarding processes, managing employee records, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes for part-time employees, including verifying accuracy of applications, conducting background checks, and determining eligibility for employment.
  • Manage employee records, including processing invoices, preparing SAP reports, and ordering supplies for the HR department.
  • Provide confidential administrative support to the VP of Human Resources, including exposure to confidential labor relations initiatives and other sensitive matters.
  • Assist with human resources special projects, including research, planning, and implementation of new initiatives.
  • Respond to inquiries and troubleshoot issues related to time and attendance, employee benefits, and other HR-related matters.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma with some college credits completed.
  • 5 years of human resources, administrative, or related professional experience required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and intermediate knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of human resources, administrative, or related professional experience preferred.
  • Experience with other MS Office applications, SAP, and Kronos preferred.
