The Tax Compliance Investigator plays a crucial role in examining, assessing, and probing allegations of tax law infractions from the initial suspicion through to the conclusion of any legal proceedings. Key responsibilities encompass conducting thorough research and validation of account activities utilizing advanced data analysis techniques, which include scrutinizing tax filings, financial statements, employment documentation, corporate frameworks, and legal/collection actions to ensure adherence to tax regulations. Investigative duties frequently involve interviewing complainants, witnesses, and subjects, alongside conducting field investigations and surveillance activities. This position also requires the preparation of detailed investigative reports and the collection of evidence to support administrative measures or criminal prosecutions. Collaboration with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and providing testimony in court may be necessary for criminal cases. Furthermore, the role includes offering tax analysis and research assistance for other investigations related to offenses against the Kansas Department of Revenue.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: The candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of two years of experience in investigation, fact-finding, accounting, auditing, or enforcing state tax regulations, with the possibility of relevant education to substitute for experience as determined by the agency. Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is mandatory.
Preferred Experience: Excellent verbal communication skills in challenging scenarios, professional writing capabilities to generate detailed reports, and personal attributes such as being personable, self-driven, and meticulous. The role necessitates the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint checks are required due to access to Federal Tax Information and sensitive Criminal History Record Information.
