Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Shredder Manager to join our team at Alter Trading Corporation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operations of the auto shredder, working closely with the facility manager to achieve this goal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead safety improvement activities and participate in Alter's safety program to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Set operating schedules, daily and monthly production goals, and operating processes in conjunction with the facility manager and other facility management staff.
  • Monitor performance and quality of the shredding operation using metrics.
  • Prepare and monitor annual budgets and monthly operating costs for shredding operations.
  • Identify and evaluate new technology for future implementation at the shredder, participating in company-wide committees on shredder operations.
  • Manage trucking and rail transportation activities related to shredding operations in conjunction with transportation staff.
  • Direct preventative and emergency maintenance activities for the shredder to improve availability and costs, including spare part inventory management.
  • Oversee management of production employees on one shift, communicating with maintenance staff on staffing, performance management, training, and development.
  • Work with marketing staff to grade and price scrap, maintaining excellent relationships with commercial and peddler customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of recent and relevant experience supervising a staff of equivalent size in an industrial manufacturing or heavy equipment production environment.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and large motor sub-systems, as well as metals recycling operations and shredders.
  • Familiarity with welding, mechanical, and simple electrical maintenance.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to communicate and track information.
  • Excellent open communication style required to carry out responsibilities with all levels of employees.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license.
