Your Role and Responsibilities:

Surgical technologists play a crucial role in the surgical team, providing essential support during surgical procedures. Under the guidance of a registered nurse or surgeon, they ensure the safe and efficient execution of both invasive and non-invasive surgeries. Their responsibilities include maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring the functionality of surgical equipment, and adhering to protocols that prioritize patient safety. Surgical technologists are well-versed in aseptic techniques and the principles of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the tools required for effective surgical interventions. They comply with the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and uphold all relevant local, state, and federal regulations. Additionally, they are committed to delivering exceptional customer service and fostering respectful relationships.

Key Contributions to the Team:

  • The surgical technologist is responsible for managing instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for surgical procedures, demonstrating an understanding of the procedure and anticipating the surgeon's needs.
  • They prepare for surgeries by gathering, checking, and opening required supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is functional and readily available.
  • Maintaining strict aseptic techniques, they monitor all team members to prevent any breaches in sterile practices, including performing surgical hand scrubs and setting up sterile fields.
  • They conduct instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator as per established protocols.
  • Participation in the surgical site and patient verification process is essential, speaking up if any discrepancies arise.
  • Anticipating the surgeon's needs, they efficiently pass instruments and supplies during procedures.

Qualifications and Expertise Required:

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Tech Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
