Work Schedule: Full Time, 6:30 AM - 5 PM, 4x10 hour shifts

Your Role:

Under general supervision, the surgical scrub technician/nurse plays a vital role in patient care during surgical procedures by performing technical and delegated tasks. You will be an integral member of the surgical team, providing care to patients across various age groups as defined by unit standards. Compliance with the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and adherence to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations is essential. You will actively engage in exceptional customer service and maintain respectful relationships with all stakeholders.

Your Contributions to the Team:

As a surgical scrub, you will:

  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs and keep the circulating nurse informed throughout the procedure.
  • Ensure all necessary supplies, equipment, and medications are prepared prior to the surgery.
  • Innovate to maintain high standards and quality while facilitating cost savings.
  • Assist the team in achieving safe and efficient operating room turnover times.
  • Guide ancillary personnel during room turnover and provide support to surgical team members.
  • Supervise other healthcare professionals in the surgical setting.
  • Utilize your knowledge to assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Promote a safe environment and respond appropriately in emergencies, managing potential hazards.
  • Follow CDC isolation protocols, utilize PPE effectively, and maintain strict adherence to infection control practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support departmental standards.
  • Foster positive relationships with physicians, management, and other departments, addressing complaints promptly.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

+ Proficient communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking English to fulfill job responsibilities.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

Basic understanding of aseptic/sterile techniques and surgical instrumentation.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience in a clinical setting relevant to the specialty area, with at least one year in orthopedics and/or trauma surgery.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

+ If licensed as an LPN, a current, valid State of Florida license is required. Additional surgical technician certification is not mandatory.

+ Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) is required. Completion of an RN training program may substitute for certification.

+ BLS certification is necessary.
