Job Overview

The Senior Maintenance Operations Leader (SMOL) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance division within the facility. The SMOL directs the efforts of Maintenance Supervisors, Professional Maintenance Specialists (PMS) at select locations, and associated skilled trades personnel. This role demands a profound technical acumen regarding all machinery and systems present in their designated facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guides and cultivates the maintenance team to mitigate significant equipment losses.
  • Ensures that technical and procedural assistance is extended to various departments to maintain optimal equipment performance and enhancement.
  • Conducts thorough evaluations of Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and Overall Line Efficiency (OLE) metrics, ensuring accurate machine categorization and validation of recovery strategies.
  • Establishes the appropriate maintenance approach aligned with production schedules, resource availability, and budget constraints.
  • Oversees accurate data gathering processes, evaluates maintenance tasks, and manages the strategy for spare parts inventory.
  • Promotes a focus on World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, particularly in Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Professional Maintenance (PM) initiatives.
  • Supports all facets of production operations, including safety, quality, delivery, cost management, and team morale, while driving the successful adoption of WCM standards.
  • Coordinates the activities and priorities of maintenance supervisors, professional maintenance leads, and skilled trades personnel.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent journeyperson certification; a minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation maintenance, including supervisory roles.
  • Willingness to work various shifts and overtime as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and capacity to engage with employees across all levels of the organization, from hourly workers to senior management.
  • Proven ability to foster effective business relationships with plant leadership and stakeholders.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented leader with the ability to inspire teams.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and programming in areas such as controls, robotics, drives, and system-level communication, as well as various automation systems.
  • Familiarity with machine operation and system integration.
  • Working knowledge of advanced technical problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical or engineering discipline (e.g., BSME or BSEE).
  • Prior experience in a unionized work environment.
  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing context.
  • Understanding of World Class Manufacturing principles and their implementation.
  • Seven or more years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or automotive setting.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques, including resistance spot welding.
  • Experience with Control Net and Device Net Networks, as well as ABB systems.
  • Familiarity with RS Logic, PLC-5, Control Logics, Allen Bradley Drive Systems, machine installation, and robotic automation.
  • Experience in body shop and stamping press automation or subassembly processes.
  • Good working knowledge of Google Suite software applications.
