Position Overview

The Information Technology Systems Architect plays a crucial role in supporting the Information Security Team by aiding Gwinnett County's Security personnel in safeguarding County systems. This role is integral in assisting the Information Security Division with daily risk management and compliance tasks, evaluating project and business case submissions for necessary security measures, and refining compliance methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert in PCI DSS Compliance.
  • Facilitate ongoing compliance initiatives and monitoring efforts across relevant Regulations and Standards (e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA, CJIS, FISMA, etc.).
  • Enhance existing processes and conduct regular assessments of IT vendor security practices to identify potential risks to the County.
  • Conduct regular reviews of user access and privileges to County resources.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of compensating controls and provide recommendations to management.
  • Monitor remediation efforts for issues identified by Internal Audit.
  • Lead non-technical incident response efforts, such as lost devices or policy breaches.
  • Maintain and enhance County IT policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Oversee the classification of applications, systems, and data based on their significance and criticality to the County.
  • Collaborate and foster relationships with key IT, Security, and core business partners to promote ongoing security education and awareness regarding assigned risk initiatives.
  • Work closely with other teams to develop new processes and procedures to fulfill security and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the creation and upkeep of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Manage multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, shifting priorities, and rapid changes.
Public Speaking Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and collaborative abilities for requirements gathering.
  • Effectively communicate and relate security and risk-related concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exhibit strong presentation and facilitation skills to guide decisions and convey information effectively.
Additional Requirements
  • This position is a civilian role within a public safety department or Information Technology, closely associated with public safety. Due to the sensitive nature of this role, a background in public safety is necessary, including motor vehicle and criminal history checks, credit evaluations, and fingerprinting.
  • This position may offer a hybrid telework schedule following an initial probationary period and individual approval.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Security, Information Systems, Auditing, Information Assurance, Intelligence Studies, Cybersecurity, or a related field AND
  • Seven years of progressively responsible, professional-level security and compliance experience in a large-scale Information Technology environment.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of direct experience with PCI Compliance as a Level 2 or Level 1 merchant.
  • PCI Internal Security Assessor certification.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance requirements (SOX, HIPAA, CJIS, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of information security standards and frameworks (NIST, ISO, CSF, CIS, SOC, etc.).
  • Experience reviewing vendor security practices for compliance with industry standards.
  • Experience collaborating with other teams to develop new processes and procedures to meet security and compliance needs.
  • Audit Certification preferred (CIA, CISA, CISM, CFE, CGAP, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to quickly adjust to various demands, shifting priorities, and rapid changes.
  • Understanding of project management processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of technology trends and developments.
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey security and risk-related concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional presentation and facilitation skills.
