Job Overview:

Hudson Data is in search of a proficient candidate for the role of Splunk Systems Engineer. This position entails significant responsibilities in managing and optimizing our Splunk environment.

The chosen candidate will be tasked with:


  • Providing comprehensive administration support for Splunk, ensuring the effective operation and upkeep of the log aggregation and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platform.
  • Conducting systems analysis, modifying and updating systems along with related data ingestion parameters based on analytical results, deploying applications and tools, performing testing, and communicating updates to stakeholders.
  • Establishing and maintaining configuration and technical support, assisting in the technical design process, and guiding clients on maximizing the value derived from Splunk products.
  • Maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting Splunk servers, clusters, and management systems.
  • Installing, upgrading, and maintaining necessary Splunk applications and add-ons.
  • Providing performance and license tuning for systems and troubleshooting Splunk components across diverse network environments.
  • Offering solution engineering support to ensure systems and components align with current and future standards.
  • Developing, creating, deploying, and managing custom Splunk monitors, alerts, and dashboards.
  • Monitoring Splunk for cluster status, health status, and other issues, resolving them as necessary.
  • Managing patching and updates of Splunk hosts and/or Splunk application software.
  • Monitoring and auditing configurations while participating in the Change Management process to prevent unauthorized changes.
  • Integrating contextual data into notable events.
  • Designing, developing, recommending, and implementing Splunk dashboards and alerts to support the Incident Response team.
  • Developing advanced scripts for data manipulation to meet analyst requirements.
  • Providing recommendations and implementing changes to enhance Splunk performance in the environment.
  • Performing integration activities to connect with third-party software APIs.
  • Proposing innovative solutions to management and key stakeholders.
  • Managing the automation of Splunk deployments and orchestration.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in implementing and administering Splunk and Splunk Enterprise Security.
  • Proficiency in writing Splunk queries using the Splunk Programming Language (SPL).
  • Certification as a Splunk Enterprise Administrator or Certified Splunk Administrator.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to decompose complex issues into actionable steps.
  • Experience in creating diagrams and documentation encompassing all components of IT systems, including network topology.
  • Proficiency in development using languages such as Bash, Perl, Shell, Powershell, SQL, D3, HTML, XML, CSS, Java, and/or Python scripts.
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field, combined with relevant experience.
  • Experience in AWS and public cloud environments, including Azure.
  • Familiarity with automation frameworks such as SaltStack, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Strong system administration experience in both Windows and Linux environments.
