Overview:

The Functional Family Therapy for Foster Care (FFT FC) program is a research-supported, in-home therapeutic intervention that emphasizes the importance of the family unit for children involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) who are receiving clinical support in a Therapeutic Foster Care environment. This program not only provides clinical treatment but also integrates essential case management services, focusing on both Birth Families and Foster Families as the primary units of intervention. The FFT FC approach is rooted in the foundational FFT model, which is implemented with both the foster family and the birth family during the reunification process of the youth.

Position Summary:

The FFT-FC Specialist is responsible for overseeing all facets of outreach clinical treatment for designated clients within the therapeutic foster care system, employing the Functional Family Therapy (FFT) framework. This role involves delivering family therapy, case management, and crisis intervention services. The Specialist collaborates with members of the foster care team to ensure coordinated care and maintains communication with relevant stakeholders. As an integral member of the clinical team, the Specialist is accountable for the accurate maintenance of client records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive initial assessments, including the evaluation of referral information, engaging key participants, identifying protective and risk factors, and performing a relational assessment within the family structure.
  • Deliver assessment and treatment interventions that adhere to the evidence-based model.
  • Facilitate reunification services for children in placement and their families of origin.
  • Provide home and community-based care to address the clinical needs of clients through model-compliant FFT FC interventions.
  • Continuously evaluate the engagement levels of all key participants and collaborate with supervisors and stakeholders to address barriers to engagement.
  • Document ongoing client progress and outcomes in alignment with model fidelity.
  • Exhibit proficiency in age-related or specialty issues and developmental needs for each population served.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with family members and other service providers.
  • Conduct crisis assessments and interventions to monitor the status of clients in crisis situations.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation system, providing support to families via phone during crises.
  • Assist clients in developing appropriate discharge plans that comply with model and contract requirements, including transitioning to support services and potential readmission to FFT as necessary.
  • Ensure clear and concise documentation of sessions and collateral contacts that facilitate monthly supervisory reviews in accordance with agency policies.
  • Engage in weekly supervision, consultation, and meetings to assess client and program progress.
  • Attend all required FFT training sessions and utilize video recording as mandated.
  • Complete Care4 documentation as required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related Behavioral Health field.
  • A minimum of one year of demonstrated experience providing clinical services to children and/or families.
  • Preferred knowledge base includes:
  1. Home-based therapy
  2. Family Systems theory
  3. Cognitive Behavioral therapies
  4. Understanding trauma reactions and their impact on brain development
  5. Managing emotional dysregulation due to complex trauma
  6. Awareness of racial disparities within behavioral health services
  7. Child development and its application in treatment
  8. Experience with Functional Family Therapy

Licensure:

At minimum, candidates should possess LMSW, LMFT-A, or LPC-A licensure. Preferred licensure includes LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Psychologist.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish)

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to navigate multiple flights of stairs.
  • Capability to work with clients in diverse settings.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness to travel to off-site locations for in-home visits and collaborative meetings.
  • Availability to conduct client activities during late afternoon, evening, and/or weekend hours.
