Position Title: Housing Assistance Coordinator

Reports To: HCV Operations Manager

Position Summary

Act as the primary point of contact for the Housing Choice Vouchers Department, providing assistance to clients and ensuring compliance with established protocols and HUD regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Input data into the system and maintain organized records.
  • Collect and verify information from residents to process interim payment adjustments in line with established guidelines.
  • Gather and confirm family income and membership changes, ensuring all necessary documentation is obtained.
  • Draft correspondence, contract modifications, and conduct client interviews as needed.
  • Perform eligibility reviews for program participation and take necessary actions based on established guidelines.
  • Manage Port In clients, facilitate voucher briefings, and issue vouchers accordingly.
  • Handle incoming calls, providing information or directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
  • Welcome visitors to the office, assisting them with inquiries, providing application forms, and guiding them through the process.
  • Receive and distribute mail, ensuring outgoing correspondence is processed according to established procedures.
  • Make copies of identification and other relevant documents for application files.
  • Provide applicants with necessary forms for address changes, disability claims, and background checks.
  • Collect income and other required verifications.
  • Organize applications in accordance with established protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification with at least one year of experience in data entry and general clerical tasks, including computer usage and file management, or a combination of education and experience that meets these requirements.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of social work principles and employment counseling practices.
  • Familiarity with HUD regulations and organizational policies.
  • Proficiency in business English, spelling, arithmetic, and vocabulary.
  • Competence in using standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, telephones, and copiers.
  • Knowledge of commonly used software applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to provide guidance to low-income clients regarding employment and personal goals.
  • Capacity to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Ability to interpret and apply HUD and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents and community organizations.
  • Ability to interact with clients and businesses in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Sound judgment in decision-making based on established guidelines.
  • Analytical skills to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Effective oral communication skills for client interactions.
