Position Overview: Under the general oversight of the Real-Time Crime Center Supervisor, this role involves dynamic technical tasks that require conducting open-source internet investigations, including social media analysis. The specialist will manage various databases and software systems utilized within the Real-Time Crime Center, ensuring the timely distribution of critical data to relevant personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with sworn detectives in the Real-Time Crime Center to support patrol and investigative operations by utilizing available technological resources to address crime and urgent incidents.
  • Employ multiple systems for real-time monitoring of potential criminal activities and tracking of suspects, while maintaining communication with officers and dispatchers.
  • Document real-time and follow-up investigations in criminal reporting databases.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate criminal intelligence information to assess reliability and accuracy, develop investigative leads, and identify patterns and trends.
  • Conduct investigations on behalf of the Real-Time Crime Center using resources such as the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), eWarrants, LexisNexis, and others.
  • Prepare information packets based on investigative findings.
  • Act as a liaison with external agencies and other law enforcement Real-Time Crime Centers, addressing their inquiries and requests.
  • Design and develop statistical reports and GIS mapping projects to meet departmental management objectives.
  • Analyze public safety data to identify crime patterns, high-crime areas, and peak workload periods.
  • Create graphs, tables, maps, and supporting documentation for internal and external requests, including benchmark analysis and grant applications.

Qualifications:

  • An associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in crime analysis, law enforcement, or intelligence.
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality practices related to legal records management and data protection.
  • High proficiency in computer literacy and relational database concepts.
  • Experience in data analysis, research methodologies, and statistics, preferably within a law enforcement context.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patrol and investigative personnel.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with law enforcement databases and technologies, including Video Management Systems and License Plate Readers.
  • Knowledge of social media research techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with GIS and ESRI products.
  • Experience in conducting complex real-time criminal intelligence research.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively through spoken word.
  • Visual acuity for observing details and operating a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to exert physical force as needed for the role.

Environmental Conditions: The position may involve working indoors or outdoors, with no significant occupational hazards typically associated.
