Job Title: Assistant Controller

Vaco is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team in Boston. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a critical role in supporting the Director of Finance in managing the accounting operations of our client.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage the general ledger, including overseeing reconciliations, journal entries, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records.
  • Lead the development of the annual budget and financial forecasts, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company's assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during audits, ensuring all financial documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including tax filings, financial reporting standards, and internal policies.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on complex accounting issues and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance accounting processes, implementing best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide in-depth financial analysis and insights to senior management, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Lead or participate in special projects, such as system implementations, financial modeling, and acquisitions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience in the manufacturing, space, defense, or aerospace industry.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and documentation.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams in a fast-paced environment.
