Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Inspector to join our team at the City of Grand Rapids, MI. As a Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Municipal, State, and National codes and identifying defects and potential hazards in mechanical installations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect mechanical installations to verify compliance with relevant codes and regulations
  • Schedule inspections and respond to questions and complaints from the public
  • Issue corrective orders and written violations notices to contractors and owners
  • Review permit applications and issue permits
  • Consult with contractors, architects, engineers, builders, and other city departments regarding code requirements
  • Prepare and administer licensing exams and issue licenses
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on inspection activities
  • Abate hazardous conditions and issue violation/shut-off notices
  • Attend code update meetings for continuing education
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least four (4) years of related work experience
  • Possession of a mechanical license from the State of Michigan in 3 of the 4 following categories (Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping, HVAC equipment, Refrigeration, Fire suppression)
