Position Overview

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Manager of Thermal Mechanical Analysis. This role is integral to our operations, focusing on advanced thermal mechanical evaluations. The position operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the approval authority for engineering calculation analysis reports (ECARs) that support irradiation experiments.
  • Execute approved departmental and programmatic plans and budgets.
  • Recruit, mentor, and promote staff within the department.
  • Sanction self-assessment plans and other standard approval authorities, including time charges and travel expenses.
  • Develop and uphold guides, standards, and procedures for assigned management systems.
  • Formulate work procedures to achieve mission objectives while ensuring safe, secure, environmentally compliant, and efficient operations.
  • Allocate departmental resources to support division, directorate, programmatic, and laboratory missions.
  • Hold team members accountable for their performance and responsibilities.
  • Implement departmental decisions and policies in alignment with INL standards, covering staffing, organization, merit allocations, promotions, discipline, awards, recognition, professional development, indirect budgets, business development, customer relations, and project management.
Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with relevant experience in the nuclear sector: BS with 12+ years, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 6+ years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in nuclear experiment research and development.
  • Proven leadership experience, showcasing effective skills in recruiting, developing, and managing engineering professionals.
  • Experience in performing or overseeing analysis work related to nuclear reactors and systems.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, multi-physics, and nuclear systems software (e.g., ABAQUS, Star-CCM+, COMSOL, RELAP5).
  • Familiarity with nuclear safety basis and design safety analysis documentation.
  • Ability to articulate complex experimental designs and analyses, and construct arguments to defend these analyses.
  • Capacity to thrive in a culturally diverse environment.
  • This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Target pay range for this position is $123,000 to $185,631 annually, with full pay range from $103,000 to $262,000.

  • This is a testing designated position; candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug screen and periodic testing throughout employment.
