Position Overview

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Thermal Mechanical Analysis Department Manager. This role is essential in overseeing a team that operates on a 9x80 schedule, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the approval authority for engineering calculation analysis reports (ECARs) related to irradiation experiments.
  • Execute approved departmental and programmatic plans and budgets.
  • Recruit, mentor, and advance departmental personnel.
  • Sanction self-assessment plans and other standard approval processes, including time charges and travel expenses.
  • Formulate and uphold guides, standards, and procedures for designated management systems.
  • Create operational procedures to meet mission objectives while ensuring safety, security, and environmental compliance.
  • Allocate departmental resources to support broader division, directorate, and laboratory missions.
  • Ensure accountability among staff for their assigned responsibilities.
  • Implement departmental decisions and policies in alignment with organizational guidelines.
Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with relevant experience in the nuclear sector: BS with 12+ years, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 6+ years.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in nuclear experiment research and development.
  • Proven leadership experience with effective skills in recruiting and managing engineering teams.
  • Experience in analysis work concerning nuclear reactors and systems.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and multi-physics software (e.g., ABAQUS, Star-CCM+, COMSOL, RELAP5).
  • Familiarity with nuclear safety basis and design safety analysis documentation.
  • Ability to articulate complex experimental designs and analyses clearly.
  • Capacity to thrive in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:

The target salary range for this position is $123,000 to $185,631 annually, with a comprehensive pay range available. Compensation decisions are based on education, relevant experience, and credentials.
