Housing Crisis Resolution Specialist

As a Diversion Specialist at South Middlesex Opportunity Council, you will play a critical role in resolving housing crises for individuals in need. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct diversion problem-solving conversations at assessments for emergency shelter requests. You will help individuals identify alternative housing arrangements, coordinate referrals to community resources, and assist with access to financial assistance for those who qualify.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain knowledge of the Coordinated Access Network/Homeless Response System
Record information in the HMIS database
Provide motivational interviewing skills to fuel problem-solving conversations
Network with community partners to maintain knowledge of community resources for basic needs, such as food pantries and clothing donations
Network with community partners to maintain knowledge of mental health, behavioral health, and physical health services, including substance abuse treatment
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Minimum of 2 years of case management experience
Prior training and experience in Motivational Interviewing strongly preferred
Excellent computer/data entry skills
Ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation
Working Conditions
This position requires direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required, and some travel is expected. Flexibility with hours is required as some meetings may occur after hours.
