Youth Housing Specialist

As a Housing and Resource Navigator at South Middlesex Opportunity Council, you will play a vital role in supporting homeless young adults in the MetroWest area.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with area college staff, community partners, and SMOC staff to identify immediate and short-term needs to support housing stability.
- Providing street outreach, assessment, and 1:1 support to the homeless young adult and unaccompanied young adult population.
- Assessing housing and supportive services needs to determine which short-term financial assistance programs may be available to rapidly re-house the individual.
- Helping clients obtain all necessary documentation and complete paperwork for housing-related applications.
- Assisting clients with completing housing applications and negotiating leases with landlords.
- Establishing a thorough list of housing resources across different regions of the state where the families may have ties and support in place.
- Working collaboratively with collateral providers, including the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Youth Services (DYS), Early Intervention, Legal Services, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), etc.
- Maintaining client files to include completed intakes, re-housing plans, referrals made, and services accessed.
- Ensuring services are operated in compliance with all federal, state, and local funding requirements, as well as agency policies and procedures.
- Being available to travel around the region to meet with providers, potential clients, and potential landlords and to attend meetings.
- Gathering required data, keeping accurate client records, and providing regular written notes, including client updates, demographics, barriers, and new resources.
This is a flexible schedule position with a 35-hour work week, offering a range of benefits, including paid time off, employer-paid life insurance, and comprehensive medical plans.
