POSITION OVERVIEW:

At Talbots, our mission is to empower our customers to look and feel their best. The Assistant Store Leader collaborates with the Store Manager to guide the team in fostering a welcoming atmosphere for both customers and staff. This role serves as a model for delivering exceptional customer experiences, enabling the team to tailor individual interactions and cultivate lasting relationships. In partnership with the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Leader is accountable for advancing the business, particularly in areas related to merchandising strategies, operational systems, and various operational functions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Demonstrate professionalism, a strong work ethic, integrity, and respect for others, establishing an environment that positions Talbots as an employer of choice.
  • Educate, coach, mentor, and motivate Sales Associates based on their unique strengths and developmental needs, including onboarding new talent and driving key performance metrics.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment where all associates are held accountable and take pride in upholding the same standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide constructive feedback and address performance or disciplinary issues as necessary.

Business Insight:

  • Stay informed about business trends and key performance indicators to strategically identify opportunities that will enhance sales and achieve financial objectives.
  • Analyze store reports to optimize labor costs and manage expenses effectively.
  • Understand the balance between operational and sales activities at different times of the month and assist the Store Manager in effective planning and scheduling.

Operational Excellence:

  • Lead all aspects of operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to manage and control all operating expenses.
  • Educate, train, and reinforce brand standards and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate store-specific information.
  • Act as the store lead for all operational systems.
  • Plan and prioritize tasks to meet business needs.
  • Safeguard company assets and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to all company policies and local, state, and federal employment regulations.

Enhancing the Customer Experience:

  • Capable of fostering a sales culture where all associates align with customer needs.
  • Willing to assist customers and support the team to create exceptional customer experiences.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships that contribute to a productive work environment.
  • Effectively communicate store information and brand initiatives to enhance the customer experience.
  • Professionally represent the Talbots brand and ensure all associates meet the same standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years of experience in specialty retailing, particularly in store operations, is preferred. One year of leadership experience is also preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed performance expectations.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the role, including standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Proficient in navigating computer and handheld systems with intermediate skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
  • Open to relocation and opportunities in other areas of the business.
  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
