Position Summary:

The Procurement Specialist reports directly to the Procurement Manager. This role is pivotal in negotiating purchase costs, managing lead times, evaluating contracts, and maximizing value for the organization. The Procurement Specialist is tasked with reviewing, analyzing, and executing material requisitions generated by MRP and internal purchase requests to support both internal and external customer schedules and requirements. This position ensures a regulated flow of approved materials to fulfill production needs efficiently and cost-effectively. Additionally, the Procurement Specialist will release work orders and provide assistance to the Master Scheduler as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all facets of procurement including pricing, delivery schedules, lead times, and terms & conditions to secure optimal value for the organization.
  • Enhance inventory turnover by collaborating with suppliers through consignment, stocking agreements, and other initiatives, while understanding the significance of economic order quantity (EOQ).
  • Engage with various departments (Engineering, Quality, Operations) to investigate, analyze, and procure new materials and services, as well as to establish new supplier relationships as necessary.
  • Manage Purchase Order placement to fulfill MRP material requirements for direct materials and services, along with internal requests for supplies and services.
  • Generate, oversee, and maintain purchase orders, contract documents, and long-term agreement deliverables, ensuring timely delivery and prompt resolution of supplier-related issues.
  • Ensure that purchase orders are accurately entered and updated within the ERP system in a timely manner, with clear definitions of customer flow downs.
  • Collect technical data and scope of work details to serve as the primary communication link with suppliers.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with US government procurement regulations and requirements.
  • Propose and assist in the development and implementation of process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with Accounting to address invoice discrepancies.
  • Release work orders and monitor their status throughout the production process. Collaborate with the Master Scheduler and Production Manager to prioritize work orders during peak capacity situations.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues, clients, and suppliers.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. APICS CPIM or Purchasing CPM certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Buyer/Planner in a manufacturing setting, with aerospace experience being advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP; Epicor experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in MRP, BOM structures, Shop-Floor Control, Configuration Management, and Warehouse Operations.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, etc.) is desirable.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a focus on win-win outcomes.
  • Self-driven, collaborative team player willing to support as needed.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • This position is on-site, Monday through Friday, during standard business hours.
