Are you passionate about developing AI technologies that redefine our interactions with devices? The Alexa Personality and Emotional Intelligence team is dedicated to enhancing Alexa's capabilities in emotional understanding and social engagement.
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in AI advancements, creating an assistant that promotes intuitive and effective communication.
Collaborate with exceptional experts in AI, machine learning, and large language models. Utilize Amazon's extensive and varied data resources, along with its powerful computing infrastructure, to drive progress in large language models and multimodal systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design innovative scientific solutions for reasoning and alignment, execute experiments, research new algorithms, and discover creative methods to enhance customer experiences.
- Develop state-of-the-art inference and training methodologies to improve the performance of large language models for unique social AI tasks and applications.
- Create and implement effective techniques for generating synthetic data to train large models, ensuring generalization and robustness.
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their growth and ability to deliver high-quality work efficiently.
Basic Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in building machine learning models for business applications.
- PhD or Master's degree with 3+ years of applied research experience.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large-scale machine learning systems, including profiling, debugging, and understanding system performance and scalability.
- Hands-on experience in training large models (>70B) and/or model distillation.

Our compensation reflects the labor market across various US geographic regions. The base salary for this role ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market.
Compensation is influenced by several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon offers a comprehensive total compensation package, which may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
