POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Commercial Lending Officer is accountable for the provision of credit in alignment with the established policies and guidelines of the lending framework. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of each client's financial requirements and circumstances, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies. The officer is tasked with the diligent management of credit assessments and documentation for all loans and borrowing relationships that are either originated or assigned to them. Additionally, it is imperative for the officer to maintain up-to-date credit files and ensure the accuracy of note and collateral security documentation.

The responsibilities of the officer include:

A. Assigning appropriate credit ratings to loans at the time of origination and adjusting as necessary based on ongoing credit evaluations. It is expected that the officer will promptly identify and report any decline in the credit quality of a loan or borrowing relationship, as early detection of potential problem loans is crucial for minimizing financial losses.
B. Proposing approvals and managing recovery strategies for distressed loans.
C. Recommending and overseeing reserve levels for loans managed by the officer.
D. Administering the collection process, whether internally or in collaboration with legal counsel, while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.
E. Safeguarding the funds of depositors and the equity of shareholders.
F. Contributing to the profitability of the bank and its shareholders.
G. Upholding and enhancing the bank's reputation.
H. Conducting interviews with loan applicants and making informed credit decisions.
I. Developing new business opportunities and overseeing the existing loan portfolio.
J. Managing the collection of overdue loans and ensuring that credit and collateral exceptions remain within policy limits.
K. Overseeing a portfolio of loans and coordinating collection efforts as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct interviews with commercial loan applicants, a task performed daily, approximately 10% of the time.
2. Assess and analyze applicants' credit and financial histories, performed daily, approximately 10% of the time.
3. Evaluate collateral (if applicable) to ascertain its adequacy, performed daily, approximately 10% of the time.
4. Authorize or recommend the approval or denial of loan applications, performed daily, approximately 10% of the time.
5. Approve loans within designated limits or escalate to the appropriate approval authority, performed daily, approximately 5% of the time.
6. Prepare loan offering memoranda, performed daily, approximately 10% of the time.
7. Ensure all loan documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with policy, performed daily, approximately 5% of the time.
8. Facilitate the timely closing or declining of loans, performed daily, approximately 5% of the time.
9. Monitor the performance of the loan portfolio, performed daily, approximately 5% of the time.
10. Maintain correspondence with customers, performed daily, approximately 10% of the time.
11. Recommend adjustments in risk ratings, performed daily, approximately 5% of the time.
12. Collect overdue loan payments, performed weekly, approximately 5% of the time.
13. Identify potential loan markets and prospects, performed daily, approximately 5% of the time.
14. Complete required compliance training as assigned, performed annually, approximately 5% of the time.
15. Maintain a constant state of alertness and operate in a safe manner.
16. Perform any other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A comprehensive understanding of fields such as accounting, marketing, business administration, and finance is essential. A four-year college degree is required, along with six years of relevant experience and/or training, including five years of management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Proficiency in writing reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals is necessary; the ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from various stakeholders is also required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Candidates should possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts, including probability, statistical inference, and the fundamentals of geometry and algebra.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

The ability to solve practical problems and navigate a variety of known variables in situations with limited standardization is essential. Candidates must be able to interpret a range of instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram formats.
