POSITION OVERVIEW:

FRESENIUS MEDICAL CENTER

OBJECTIVE: Under the direct oversight of a licensed physician, the Physician Assistant delivers medical services as necessary. Functions as an integral member of a specialized clinical and research team dedicated to the coordination of care for patients at the FVC center, operating under the guidance of the medical director. Engages in the execution of endovascular procedures and aids in the management of research protocols as required. Certification by the supervising physician is mandatory regarding the range of procedures permissible and the level of autonomy for each procedure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts physician-approved procedures independently and assists during more intricate procedures under the physician's direction.
  • Aids the physician by gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations. Executes pre-procedure medical evaluations of patients.
  • Performs procedures as outlined in the scope of practice under the physician's supervision in the outpatient procedure center, as determined during the PA's certification.
  • Reviews and coordinates results from diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, and other patient evaluations to consult with the physician for treatment decisions.
  • Collects comprehensive patient medical histories, including previous medical procedures and significant findings to inform the physician.
  • Maintains and updates patient records to ensure precise documentation of examinations.
  • Collaborates with scheduling personnel to arrange patient appointments for office visits and procedures based on assessments.
  • Consults with patients regarding findings from physical examinations and potential treatment options, either independently or in conjunction with the physician.
  • Responds to patient inquiries via telephone as needed in the physician's absence and makes follow-up calls as clinically appropriate.
  • Provides essential education to patients and their families regarding medical findings and procedures.
  • Prepares intravenous medications and labels them according to established policies and competencies.
  • Monitors patients post-procedure in the outpatient environment to ensure appropriate care.
  • After consultations, organizes procedures to guarantee the availability of necessary resources, staffing, and space to maintain quality patient care and assists in managing the workflow of the center.
  • Contributes to the pursuit of excellence in healthcare through the quality and compassionate values of FVC's philosophy and adheres to all health and safety regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands and characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those encountered while executing the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Daily responsibilities include desk work and personal computer usage, along with patient interaction, requiring travel between assigned facilities and various community locations. Attendance at regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings may be necessary.
  • The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials may occur. A significant portion of time is spent on foot, involving substantial pushing, pulling, lifting, and positioning of patients. The role necessitates the ability to frequently lift objects exceeding 50 pounds, perform moderately challenging manipulative tasks, maintain hand-eye coordination, and stand or walk for extended periods while perceiving close objects and hearing normal sounds amidst background noise.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree and graduation from an AMA-recognized physician assistant training program.
  • NCCPA certification upon hire and renewal as per State Regulations, along with ACLS and CPR certifications.
  • Licensure: State Physician Assistant License in the relevant state of practice.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • 8 – 12 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent directly related work experience.
  • A minimum of five years of diverse technical/procedural experience in diagnostic radiography.
  • Experience in interventional procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to act professionally and serve as a role model.
  • Exceptional verbal and communication skills.
  • Capability to perform invasive procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician and provide primary technical reports.
