Job Summary:

The City of Merriam is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Officer. As a key member of our public safety team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and orderly community through strong relationships with the public and enforcement of laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the City's Mission: Contribute to the City's mission by upholding the highest standards of ethics, compassion, and integrity in all interactions with the public.
  • Enforce Laws and Regulations: Effectively enforce laws and regulations to maintain public safety and order.
  • Build Community Relationships: Foster strong relationships with the public through community outreach and engagement.
  • Meet Physical Standards: Meet the department's physical standards to perform the duties of the job.

Requirements:

  • Age: Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Physical Condition: Must be in good physical condition.
  • Background: Must have an acceptable background.
  • Work Schedule: Must be able to work various hours within a 24/7/365 operational period, including overtime and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Law Enforcement Principles: Must have a basic understanding of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Quick Response: Must have the skill to make a reasoned response in quick time, based upon training received.
  • Communication: Must have the ability to communicate verbally.
  • Listening and Comprehension: Must be able to listen, comprehend, and recall information.
  • Writing: Ability to write legibly, coherently, and using correct grammar.
  • Report Preparation: Ability to prepare typed reports, free from spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Trust and Relationships: Must have the ability to gain trust and establish working relationships with members of the public and peers.
