Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solar Inverter Field Service Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our service team, you will be responsible for leading complex field engineering assignments, pre-commissioning and commissioning of solar inverters, and providing technical support to our sales teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex field engineering assignments, including pre-commissioning and commissioning of solar inverters
  • Provide technical support to sales teams, including troubleshooting and testing of solar inverters and its components
  • Lead electrical and electronic troubleshooting and testing of solar inverters and its components in the field or in the laboratory
  • Investigate solar plant issues, including DC arrays grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients
  • Provide feedback to the engineering team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements
  • Lead upgrade projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the technical scope of the project
  • Work with customer SCADA engineers to set-up systems communication and parameters
  • Create Field Service procedures for safety troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Lead BETA projects to determine technical issues before the release of a solar inverter
  • Create training material, and provide high level technical training to Field Service
  • Research alternative components that can be used in the field
  • Coordinate with design engineering on the release
  • Supervise other Field Service Engineers and/or service providers to ensure procedures are followed correctly
  • Work independently in the field and with R&D Engineers to resolve high level technical issues, leading the investigation of root cause of for technology applications for complex projects
  • Apply knowledge of design specifications for more complex systems/projects
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistic, financial, and program management disciplines to maintain the solar plants
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures
  • Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
  • Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work
  • Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations
Requirements
  • 7 plus years of overall experience in engineering field
  • 5 years of experience in solar inverters
  • Ability to work with test equipment and hand tools as required
  • Customer service, problem-solving skills, and decision making and analytical skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Closely follow instruction and pre-established procedures/SOP to perform the duties of the job
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • OSHA, NFPA70A, Electrical Safety
  • Experience and/or certification with MV transformers
Education or Desired License and Certificates
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from accredited university or college
  • Solar industry experiences are required
  • Power Electronics experience is required
