Job Title: Social Security Liaison

Join the City of New York's Administration for Children's Services (ACS) as a Social Security Liaison and play a critical role in protecting and promoting the safety and well-being of children and families.

Job Summary:

The Social Security Liaison will be responsible for coordinating with the Social Security Administration to ensure that youth in foster care receive timely and accurate Social Security numbers and cards. This role requires strong communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including foster care agencies, the Social Security Administration, and the City's Family Permanency Services (FPS) office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the Social Security Mailbox for new requests for numbers and cards
  • Provide customer service to foster care agencies for requests for Social Security numbers or cards
  • Perform Social Security Number search in WMS system
  • Liaise with the Social Security Administration
  • Prepare package for Social Security cards from the Social Security Administration
  • Double-check that the information presented by the foster care agencies matches exactly the requirements of the Social Security Administration
  • Coordinate with FPS Office Manager to securely store Social Security cards
  • Confirm the eligibility of requests for Social Security numbers for tax purposes
  • Maintain the log of incoming requests for Social Security numbers for tax purposes and Permanency planning
  • Manage Childcare referral process
Requirements:
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the following fields: social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education (including early childhood), nursing or cultural anthropology, at least 12 of which must have been in one of these disciplines, and 30 semester credits toward a Masters of Social Work or a graduate degree in a related field, and at least eighteen months of child welfare casework experience
  • Section 424-a of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child-caring responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report
