POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Doctorate in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, or a related field.
  2. Experience in research areas such as cell biology, gene therapy, structural biology, or immunology.
  3. Admission to the USPTO or bar is mandatory; post-doctoral experience is preferred.
  4. Familiarity with the life sciences sector.
  5. A business-oriented mindset with a strong interest in the advancement of cancer treatments and vaccines.
  6. Experience in IP litigation or judicial clerkship is preferred for associate roles.
  7. Experience in patent drafting and searching within a law firm is essential for agents.
  8. Proven ability to communicate complex scientific concepts effectively to diverse audiences, including both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
  9. Strong scientific writing skills, including the ability to analyze and articulate abstract scientific concepts, synthesize extensive scientific literature into concise summaries, and differentiate significant scientific discoveries.
  10. Capacity to manage multiple priorities efficiently, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  11. Ability to collaborate effectively within team environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Evaluate scientific literature, patents, and applications across various biological disciplines, including cell biology, cancer biology, immunology, genetics, and molecular biology. Provide insightful critiques and opinions on scientific data related to inventions.
  2. Conduct thorough searches for relevant scientific articles, patents, and applications.
  3. Perform detailed analyses comparing inventions with existing technologies.
  4. Identify critical elements and features of inventions.
  5. Draft patent applications that include a comprehensive overview of the invention's field, detailed descriptions of its key features, and clearly defined claims.
  6. Prepare responses to patent application rejections from the USPTO and other international patent offices, offering detailed analyses of cited references and articulating compelling arguments for patent approval.
  7. Conduct freedom-to-operate and patentability assessments on prior art and patent documents; prepare and review information disclosure statements for submission to the USPTO and foreign jurisdictions.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues on various projects, adapting to different team dynamics, and presenting ideas and conclusions clearly.
  9. Engage with clients in the patent application process, asking pertinent questions to clarify the distinct features of inventions and responding promptly to client inquiries.
