If you are passionate about providing hope and healing through compassionate, innovative, and personalized care, we invite you to explore the position outlined below.

The Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II (PNA II) is responsible for performing moderately complex rehabilitative patient care services.

This role involves delivering patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to ensure high-quality psychiatric nursing care in an inpatient environment.

Responsibilities include providing emergency, health, and personal care services to patients; observing, reporting, and documenting patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record; engaging with patients therapeutically; and participating in both individualized and unit-based programming.

The PNA II's primary duty is to maintain ongoing therapeutic interactions with patients to enhance their living and social skills, thereby facilitating progress towards a less restrictive environment.

As a vital member of the recovery or admissions team, you will provide verbal and supportive documentation regarding individual patient behaviors and progress towards their recovery goals.

Participation in shift reports and recovery team meetings is essential. You will perform delegated nursing duties commensurate with your competency level and may offer guidance to PNA I staff. This position operates under general supervision, allowing for limited initiative and independent judgment. While you will not have financial responsibilities, you will be accountable for assigned property.

It is important to recognize that duties, work locations, and shift patterns may change as determined by administration to meet hospital needs.

Exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials may occur. This position has access to a limited set of records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is expected, and you may be required to work specific shifts, rotating schedules, extended shifts, or overtime as per agency policy.

Utilize therapeutic communication skills to engage patients effectively and assist them in achieving their individual recovery objectives.

If assigned to night shifts, maintain a calm and restful environment to promote patient rest and sleep.

In admissions, facilitate the process by reassuring patients during evaluations and providing necessary documentation.

Deliver supportive, age-appropriate care to patients as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN) and assist with daily living activities to foster independence.

Monitor patients as assigned, ensuring the health and safety of all individuals. Escort patients to appointments as needed.

Act as a liaison to the recovery or admissions team, providing ongoing verbal and written communication regarding patient progress towards individualized goals, and actively participate in implementing recovery plans.

Employ basic computer skills and documentation procedures to communicate patient care information clearly and promptly.

Assist licensed nurses in preparing patients for medication administration or treatment, including taking and monitoring vital signs.

Promote safety through continuous monitoring of the environment and active patient engagement to minimize risks and injuries.

Facilitate programming offered on the unit or facility, co-facilitating groups as assigned and encouraging patient participation.

Respond effectively to crisis or psychiatric emergencies, utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques and Treatment Intervention Protection Strategies (TIPS) under RN supervision to avert crises and ensure safety.

Communicate effectively with team members to foster a culture that emphasizes the least restrictive interventions necessary.

Perform CPR/Heimlich techniques and operate an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines.

In the absence of PNA III and IV staff, provide guidance to PNA I personnel as requested to maintain efficient patient care delivery.

Deliver timely, clinically relevant patient information to the RN based on direct observations to enhance safety.

Serve as a preceptor for new employees (PNA I) and temporarily assigned personnel, providing orientation and ongoing training.

Participate in unit and hospital committees as appointed.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the efficient operation of the patient care unit, including participation in disaster response and recovery efforts as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of patient care techniques and treatment, therapy, developmental, and patient-centered recovery programs.

Basic computer skills and effective interpersonal abilities to collaborate with team members.

Skills in taking vital signs and the ability to read, write, and comprehend English for effective communication.

Capability to provide patient care, administer first aid or CPR, and conduct TIPS.

Aptitude for teamwork and accepting supervision, along with the ability to train and guide others.
