Position Summary:

The Custodian II is responsible for performing moderately complex custodial tasks. This role involves cleaning, dusting, disinfecting, and sanitizing to ensure a safe and healthy environment. The position requires the operation of floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors. Responsibilities also include requesting and restocking supplies as needed, assisting in inspections of facilities for cleanliness and necessary repairs, and performing minor building and equipment repairs and installations. The Custodian II is accountable for maintaining custodial equipment in optimal condition and ensuring the cleanliness of outdoor areas.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Regular attendance and adherence to a specific shift schedule, which may include rotating shifts, extended hours, or overtime as per agency policy.

Execute custodial tasks efficiently and with high standards, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows and light fixtures. Ensure proper sanitization and disinfection in accordance with established training.

Maintain and clean floors, restrooms, nurses' stations, and other designated areas following established procedures and safety protocols.

Oversee the cleanliness of assigned buildings, empty trash, report required repairs, and replenish supplies as necessary.

Provide guidance to fellow custodians as needed.

Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness, completed tasks, and minor repairs, and perform necessary maintenance.

Complete documentation accurately and promptly, safeguarding confidential information and maintaining inventory and equipment records.

Contribute to a safe environment for patients and staff, ensuring optimal health and safety standards.


Additional Duties:

Other responsibilities may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require adjustments to shift patterns or locations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
  • Understanding of infection control principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in using custodial equipment and safely handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to operate and maintain building maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Capability to stay focused and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capacity to stand or walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours as needed.
